Hi Everyone!

Posted by Rebecca in My Adventures

Okay, I’ve finally succumbed to the pressure that is the “blogging world”! Ha! Seriously, I’ve heard good things about blogging, and I’ve decided to try it. I’m at a stage in my life where it could be useful. My family and friends know that I am in the final stages of graduate school. I’m writing my dissertation, preparing for internship next year, and yes, planning a wedding…how exciting…and dare I say: INSANE!!! Ha!

Yes, sometimes I’m overwhelmed but for the most part, I’m very blessed and content with my life. Of course, I can’t wait to finish my schooling and venture back into the working world, but I must admit, college life does have it’s perks. For example, I scheduled a dentist appointment for 10:30 a.m. yesterday and did not have to explain to my boss where I was going. Also, if battling a cold, I simply sleep in a little more.

Ah, my friends, the perks end right about there because while you 9-to-5ers awake early in the morning, most of the time when you’re off the clock, you’re off the clock. My work, is NEVER done. Yes, it’s true, I live with a constant guilt that I could be reading an article, writing a chapter for my dissertation, or revising some other document (vita, manuscript, etc.). I drag this chain of academic life around with me because I realize that one day I will earn money that will allow me to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks AND groceries, and I will earn a paycheck that will eventually pay off my school loans. Above all, I will be doing something that I LOVE and I will have minimal complaints (I’m realistic, I’m sure every day will not be joy) about waking up at the crack of dawn.

I hope that you find some use and even enjoy my blog entries! Ciao!

I, too, would like to break free from the chains of academia. The perks are nice, but I would like to have a work life, a home life, and a community life that were not all inextricably blended together. The time for our new lives is approaching… if we graduate.
